Brothers Stephen (Mark Ruffalo) and Bloom (Adrien Brody) have been con artists since they were kids. Stephen, the mastermind, finds the story as important to the con as anything else, uses Bloom as the main character. Now adults, the brothers travel the world together with their sidekick Bang Bang (Rinko Kikuchi), a silent Japanese woman who randomly appeared in their lives one day and has a penchant for blowing things up. When Bloom decides he wants to quit the business to retain his own identity rather than the various ones he has played in their cons, Stephen talks him into one last con, against the beautiful and eccentric heiress Penelope Stamp (Rachel Weisz). The brothers begin to run into some problems on their last con together. First, their arch enemy Diamond Dog (Maximillian Schell) is waiting to exact revenge on the brothers, and may finally be ready to do so. Also, Penelope is proving to be unpredictable, and after spending time with her, Bloom begins to discover he has feelings for her. Will the brothers pull together to put on one last con together, or will something stop them from succeeding?
