A man who may be a secret agent or a hired gun, known as the Lone Man (Isaach De Bankole) has come to moern Spain to perform an assassination of an American businessman (Bill Murray). Slightly schizoid, the assassin is careful, meticulous, and avoids all people because he does not know whom he can trust. All contact with his control and their agents are done in low-tech fashion, usually through coded messages on disposable paper. His fellow agents are known only by their code names: The Creole (Alex Descas), the Driver (Hiam Abbass), and the Violin (Luis Toscar). Along the way to his duty, the Lone Man, like many secret agents, drinks much coffee, smokes cigarettes, and visits museums.
