With no honor among criminals, Joe Sullivan (Dennis O’Keefe) ought to know that, when his untrustworthy friend Rick Coyle (Raymond Burr) sets up an escape plan from prison, there is a rat to smell. Joe has taken the rap for Rick, but now his pal hopes to see Joe shot during an escape attempt. How could Joe know that Pat (Claire Trevor), his tough as nails girlfriend may be in cahoots with Rick? So, Joe takes a sweet girl hostage named Ann Martin (Marsha Hunt) along during the break. Along the way to Mexico, they also meet up with Rick’s tough henchman Fantail (John Ireland).
